Updates from the crypt!

Okay, I'm not dead, but it has been almost 2 months since I've posted! Whew! Here's the news from the work desk of Caitie Beardmore.

First of all (start singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in your head).. in a couple weeks I’ll be moving to Indianapolis. Oh, now stop crying! I won’t be gone long! I’m going to finish my bachelor’s in Catholic studies with a concentration in youth ministry. YoungLife was God’s way of confirming part of my vocation and I am so excited! There’s something peaceful about finding the thing you were made to do! I can’t wait. I’ll still be involved in YL but it will be just a little different set-up. Ruby is joining me on staff and I think everything is going to work out very well!

I am a little nervous, however, about the living situation! I am going to be on-campus, in a dorm and hopefully in a single room. I’m on the waiting list for that, but I am praying that it will work out! I just cannot imagine being matched with an 18 year old freshman who hasn’t really ever been away from home and wants to try things like smoking and staying up past 9pm, you know? Pray for me, if you can.

Laura and Michaela are in charge of praying for my love-life. Marian is close to the hospitals in Indy and I plan on reading to sick children or doing something equally as inspirational in hopes of running into my future husband, who may be in medical school as we speak! I figure we’ll already have things to talk about as he would be studying to become a doctor and I am a total hypochondriac.

The Irish festival was a couple weeks ago.. Michaela, Amy, Clement and Ryan came up for it! Besides some incidents with my cousins who come in from Ireland every year, I think everyone had a good time! It was MUCH better than last year, as Gaelic Storm didn’t come back. Ugh! What pains in the ass! Anyway, I already have people asking about next year, so that’s good!

It’s my birthday month now! I am trying really hard to keep myself calm because I usually hype it up so much that when the fireworks, 5 tiered cake and special celebrity appearance by John Corbett don’t happen, I get bummed! It’s just like New Years Eve. Laura and Mikey are working on a surprise birthday/going away party, so I’ll try to leave it in their very-capable hands! They know what an auspicious day it is! LOL!

Also this month is the Bishop’s party! We Beardmore kids might be planning something for him.. We’re excited. It should be a great night. I heard there was going to be another “party” celebrating his retirement in a different way. I hope this is not the case. Very sad. It’s been on my mind, though I know I’ve mentioned this before (Elisabeth – We love “The Bish”!), I just cannot get over the unkind attitude towards our bishop. It’s sooo unbecoming of good Catholics.. The assumptions made about him, Central Catholic, other parishes.. ugh! I just can’t stand it.

Enough venting.. cuz my BFF is knocked up! Go Dan, go Dan!! Laura told me in the cutest way and I completely freaked out! May have scandalized the little chap! But he/she is going to have the best mom and dad (and Auntie Caitie) ever and I can’t wait to meet the kid! It was funny to see my last post was her wedding and now she’s preggie!! Yay! She really will be an amazing mom.. balanced, consistent and already wise. Being the oldest of 8, I can see that she has similar views on things to my mom’s who’s been doing this for quite some time. I can’t wait to see Laura in action!

I spent this past weekend in Cincinnati for my cousin’s graduation party! I took almost all the cousins to an Improv show in my aunt’s 15 passenger van and on the way home, whenever we were stopped at red lights, the kids would sway from one side to the other and make the van rock! It was hilarious! I would try to keep a straight face and pretend like I didn’t notice anything. The drivers around us would stare and look like they were about to get out of their car, come up to the window and ask if my kids were buckled! Haha! I also got to spend time with my Auntie Trish this weekend. Sometimes I wish I lived in Cleveland just to live closer to her! She my favorite Aunt of ALL TIME! She’s coming this weekend but I think I will try to visit there more often when I am living in Indy!

Anyway, that’s all I got! I will probably blog more often when I live in Indy to keep people updated. J

The weddding!!!!!!!!!!!

So the wedding is over. After a year of planning, talking engagement, looking at Bridal magazines, throwing the Bachelorette party, talking wedding, making the slideshow, talking reception, buying all the bridesmaid supplies (dress, shoes, a constricting bodyshaper); I now have no idea what will fill the empty moments of my life. Will Laura and I even have anything to talk about anymore? haha Just kidding! But I really cannot beleive it's over. This was not a one-day thing.. It's a day we have been talking about, listening about and thinking about for a year. It's surreal that my dear friend is actually married and I am still so giddy, even though it's now Monday and I am at work, I can't help but talk about the whole weekend and smile at little memories! It was an incredible weekend and a beautiful wedding!

I'll give you the top 10 moments of this weekend:

10. Going to Nine Irish Brother's with Laura's family after the rehersal dinner; laughing hysterically while Uncle Mark made fun of Joe's pink (salmon) shirt! I made the first toast to Dan and Laura: "To Laura and Dan.. to Laura's last night as a single woman and Dan's last night as a happy man!" Uncle Mark's toast began with: "To Dora and Lan.." Haha! It was a funny night!

9. Getting a massage-tan on Saturday morning at A Carribbean Mist. Mmmm! Heavenly! The bottom of the tanning bed is not glass.. it's like a twin bed that vibrates and you turn over 1/2way through! I recommend it. Calling Laura on my way and singing "Happy Wedding Day to You", though I'm sure this was one of the low-points in her day.

8. Drunkenly telling the photographer how amazing his pictures are, while I pet his arm and lean in, probably a little too close. I think (okay, I know) I told him that I wish I could make a verbal slideshow with all the compliments Laura got about her engagement pictures. And I'm sure that at the time, it didn't come out as clearly, but was just as ridiculous. When they left the reception, I made everyone clap and yell, "Monahan! Monahan!"

7. Looking longling at my half-filled glass of champagne so intently that a server came over and whispered that they had a couple more open bottles in the back and that, if I wanted, she would bring them to me. What JOY!! I proceeded to skip the bar and concentrated only on the champagne. In fact, I think I drank about a bottle and a half.

6. Getting to the end of the first bottle of champagne, realizing it was empty and knocking on the door of the kitchen. Without hesitation, the door swung open and my dear waitress (I forget her name) presented me with a full bottle!! God bless her! Later on, I was outside when this same waitress stopped a couple people who were leaving with full glasses of alcohol. She was firm but kind, and when I told her she was doing a good job, she said this was one of the best weddings she's worked and she was cool with it.

5. Standing outside the church, waiting to go in, and getting pictures of our shoes. This was a moment I will never forget. We were in a circle, and I just looked at Laura, knowing that we were minutes away from one of the most beautiful moments of her life. However, just in case, I made sure she knew that if she wanted out, we would cover for her and that I'd go start the car.

4. Starting to walk down the aisle. I kept saying, "Walk slow, walk slow" and when I got to the end I asked Brittany, "Did I walk too slow?" Haha! Seeing Dan waiting for his bride made me cry and I don't think I stopped much until the end of the wedding. Later, at the reception, Dan and I did the "Code Red" dance. We did this daily whenever Dan was over and I was getting out of the shower. I would yell "CODE RED" as I came out of the bathroom and Dan would run for cover or cover his eyes to ensure the safety of us all. The dance was just a lot of movement while covering our eyes. But anyway, it was surreal to turn around when I got to the pew and see the rest of the bridesmaids come down, the choir and all the people who were there for Laura and Dan. Then to see Laura, so pretty come down the aisle.. Wow! Such a sweet moment between those two!

3. Getting my hair done and everyone saying "Oh my gosh! That is so cute!" and "Caitie!! You look so good!" so much that my hairdresser said, "Do you not dress up that often?" And I was like, "Well, I do sometimes! Why?" And she was like, "Well it just seems like everyone is so surprised that you look so good!" Whaaaaat!??!

2. Totally letting loose at the reception. After a long day, I was ready to party and I did. It was a fun night! I had no idea what I would say when I introduced the slideshow.. I think I said something about how Laura made me do it. :) The dinner was great, the music was fun, and just ran around, having a grand old time! I definitely celebrated!

1. Seeing one of my best friends promise, before God, her love and her life to one of the sweetest guys I know. A guy who is perfect for her and who I know will always make her happy. To see my friend be so joyous and look so lovely. And to be there, supporting her and I always have and always will!

Love you, Lo Smith!!!! :) Congrats!

Did Lafayette make Hilary gag? Let's hope so! :) LOL

I went to Cincinnati this week. I got there Sunday night around 12midnight and left Tuesday morning. Monica, don't hate me.. I know I didn't call. I hadn't saved your number in my phone. Next time, you will have a primo position on my agenda, I promise. Wow... you know what? That was super presumptuous of me! Monica may have just thrown her head back, let out a big sigh and with a giddy smile said, "Thank you, Lord, for deleting my number out of Caitie's phone!" Hell, she might not even read this! I am so conceited! And yet... the crazy thing is, the fact that I pointed out my own egotistical thoughts might be an indication of how humble I am! Ah, the ongoing debate on everyone's minds!

Speaking of crazy and ongoing debates, Ms. Clinton is in town! Who wants to scour Lafayette, looking for Hilary, so we can push her into a hotel pool?? C'mon! As I was driving over the Wabash, covering my mouth and nose so as not to give the Lafayette air any room for victory (we currently have a competition going.. if I can get from downtown Lafayette to my apartment without dry-heaving, I win! If I gag, the West Lafayette Department of Sanitation wins. So far, we're 5-46. Fingers crossed that I can bring my score up. I've tried covering my entire face with a Snuggle dryer sheet, but I got lightheaded. Anyway, I hope Hilary enjoyed a strong Lafayette breeze today.), I saw that there was a line of people, 5 adults thick, that wound down the depot steps, past the Lafayette Savings Bank bank, and around the corner, ending about a fourth of the way across the bridge! Who are these people? I really wanted to attend, protesting quietly with a quick-witted sign that would have made everyone second guess their undying support! I can see it now.. people would notice my sign and while reading, cock their heads to one side, stop listening to Hilary and start nodding in agreement with my witty remark about how irrelevant it is to talk about health-care or education costs when 1/2 the population is/will be missing!

While my mom was getting ready for the Blue Knight Auction, someone called from the Obama campaign. My mom made a kind but firm explanation for our non-support, but part of me wanted to get on the phone and ask the person questions. Not about Barack's campaign but about where they're calling from, if they have one of those scripts in front of them and if Obama provided his campaign staff with dinner while they made hundreds of random phone calls. The logistics of campaigns are fascinating to me and sometimes I just want a glimpse into the political world at that level.

Anyway, the reason I visited Cincinnati to assist my cousin. She's 18, a senior at an all-girls high school and was voted onto prom court! She has never been to a dance before; it's just not her scene. So, as she is basically being forced to attend, she's a little nervous and asked me to come down to help her find a dress since the prom is this Friday. I was glad to help but now I'm thinking that I should have stayed home. I have so much to do and I'm so behind on all the day-to-day crap-ola that needs to be done.. It was relaxing tho and fun to spend time with my family! :)

One of the things I need to take care of is our toilet. I think I need to call maintenance, because it has been running for days.. We don't pay water, otherwise I would have called before I left for Cincinnati (go green!), but the chain keeps coming off the little hooky thing and last week I had to wrap my entire arm in plastic wrap (I'm not kidding) and stick my hand down the back of the toilet to re-attach it! If you were outside the bathroom, you would have heard this.. "Alright.. here we go! Ehhh.... Ewwww EWWW!!! Ah! Ehh... DAMMIT, where's the f-ing... AHHHH!!! EWW EWW EWW!!" (That's verbatim.) Hmmm... makes you wonder what the hell is going on in West Lafayette. The air smells like shit and our toilet is running away like Hilary Clinton at St. B's Oktoberfest. Is there some kind of poop strike going on? Well, I'll tell you what; my own toilet is as far as I will take things into my own (plastic wrap covered) hands, and even then --I'll still dry heave! I haven't made phone calls yet, but I think I'll start tomorrow before Sanitation hits 50 points... This is ridiculous!

The Cactus

So my last post was about the Bishop and planning for Mikey's 21st, but then Elisabeth asked me how the Cactus went! It's a funny story and too long to write as a comment, so I just decided to post again! This is a record for me, by the way, as it is usually months between posts!

The cactus was okay.. I have never seen it that empty! We sat at the piano bar for a couple songs then went out to dance. Clemont was hilarious! The other guys didn't dance tho, and left for Preston's within an hour.

A large black man, with grills (not the food cooker.. I'm talking dental bling), named Cornell, came up to me and asked my name. I gave him the usual fake name that I always use (Suzy) and he called me out on it. So my new sugar daddy (I swear, once you date a black man, it's like they all know it! Jeremy said they can probably smell it on me.. Haha!) asked me for 5 minutes of my time. I said I'd give him two walks around the dance floor (no joke! I really thought he'd say nevermind!). So, we're walking and talking and he said, "So what a man like me gotta do to get your phone number?" I told him that I never give my phone number out the first time I meet a guy and that I believe in destiny. "If we are meant to be," I said. "We will meet again." That, surprisingly, didn't turn him off and only furthered his interest (what the hell, right?). He was pretty persistent, so I told him I would be back at the Cactus next weekend, which was a bold-faced lie.

Then I turned away and went to go dance with the girls and Clemont. Cornell stood at the edge of the dance floor and every so often would yell, "Hey!" to get my attention. However, I purposefully positioned myself so that he could not catch my eye easily. Finally he sent his friend over who was apparently mute because he tapped me on the shoulder, with a serious look, and just pointed to my new friend. He motioned for me to come over to him and said, "Tell your friends to quit blockin' my view!" And I was like, "Huh?" And he said, "Your friends keep crowdin' around you and blockin' my vieeeew!" And when he said "view", he looked me up and down. Ooookay, that was enough! I went back to the girls and Clemont and as soon as he walked away for a minute, I hightailed it out of there! Whew!

Apparently he caught Mikey on the way out and they exchanged a few ghetto words.. I'm in the clear tho, and that is all that matters! Just DO NOT ask me to go to the Cactus next weekend.

We went to Preston's afterward and stayed until 3:30am. Theresa Mills called me this morning and woke me up. I was offended that anyone would call so early until she said, "Caitie, it's almost noon!" Whoops.. :)

It was a good night tho! :) Happy Birthday Mikey!

The Bishop's 21st Birthday?

There has been a slew of articles, letters to the editor and talk happening since Bishop Higi announced that Catholics should not support the Komen foundation, as it financially provides for Planned Parenthood. Not that this kind of talk is a new thing.. In the last couple years I have heard various people speak with some distain about our ordinary, Catholics no less! I have always found it almost repulsive when Catholics would speak badly about our Bishop. A couple months ago I was at a birthday party and someone mentioned how excited they were for August, when the Bishop would send in his letter for retirement. I nearly left the table and went home. It's one thing for non-Catholics to "dis" the guy.. that's just ignorance. But to hear a Catholic do it.. that's arrogance! Do they only beleive in the Apostolic Succession and the guidance of the Holy Spirit when they agree with every decision and love the man to death? I don't understand it.. and I feel for the Bishop. I know it breaks his heart.

Anyway, tonight is Mikey's 21st birthday! Whoo hoo!! I'm so excited! Anyone is welcome to join.. we will be at Bruno's at 8pm, then OBryan's and then.... (drumroll please..) ... the Neon Cactus (God, help us!). The Cactus is reeaaally not my style. As someone at Blue Jacket said last night, "I like to dance as a gentleman or lady.. not a dog." But, I think everyone has to go there once and it's Mikey's turn. We'll see how it goes. Everyone at work is telling us they will be looking in the paper on Sunday.. I don't think things are going to go THAT far!

(Hopefully..)

YoungLife is going well, but takes up so much time and effort. I'm nearly burnt out and glad for the time off soon! However, I am required to attend a camp with 8 of the CC kids in early June.. one week, 50 kids, cabins, no AC, bugs, no booze.. this is the closest thing to the survivor show I will ever get!

Well, I should go. I need to stretch and carbo-load before tonight.. :)

Movies, cats, single-hood and a party...

Hello, hello!

So, after hearing all the hype, I just got Netflix and I am really enjoying it! I've only got two movies so far. The first was "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", which was really crappy. It totally skewed the story and made St. Phillip out to be a zealot.. don't waste your time. Then I got "The Simpsons", which I had already seen. It's good, verrry funny, but one of those movies you should only see once. But either way, I love getting the mail and knowing that I only have to get to my mailbox to return the movie! :) My next film is "Into the Wild", which I am super excited about! My mom just came back from Ireland and said that she saw it on the plane and that it was awesome! :) Yay!

Now, I'd like to open up the discussion to you all..
I need names for cats. Multiple cats. To the left is a picture of all the cats for whom I will need names..

I'll be honest with you, I hate cats. And I'm allergic. But with all the new relationships, engagements and weddings going on, I'm starting to envision a life of kitten-chorus-lines and crocheted pillows.. Shit. Do you know what this means?? I need to get out there! DAMMIT!

This all started last week, at Blue Jacket night, when Elisabeth, Jeremy and I played matchmaker (by the way, have you seen the "Millionaire Matchmaker" show on Bravo? It's facinating! I love the Bravo channel). We sat at the end of one of the tables, watched everyone and discussed who could be coupled together. At the end of the night, without any mention of the match, two of the people we envisioned together had decided to go on a date!!! We were very proud! And just a couple days later, Elisabeth got ENGAGED!

But while we were having our fun, Elisabeth said "You're like the only single girl!" Waa waa! (Reminds me of the "Debbie Downer" skit, from SNL..) I'll admit, it's kinda fun.. There are multiple single men who I can have my way with (i.e. bum cigarettes off of and give me gas money). But I did start to think about what the heck I've been doing the past year! Where have I been? What have I been doing? Where the hell did my rock hard ass go? Then I remembered YoungLife; which I now call "Sucks-the-Young-Life-out-of-you". And I remembered how multiple people started telling me, "Caitie, you have to stop doing things for everyone else and start doing some for yourself. And please stop being so beautiful." And I was like, "I can't help it!" And I remembered going back to work even tho I quit because it became too much..

Yeah, I think I need to do a little re-evaluating. Some re-prioritizing. Some re-structurizing. And a little re-excercising, if you know what I mean. For now, however, I'll just continue to flirt shamelessly, bum cirgarettes and keep my Sugar Daddies busy.

Anyho, I'm finishing up organizing Laura's Bachelorette party this week. I won't tell you anything that Laura doesn't already know.. We are having dinner at "El Rodeo"(they make a great margarita), then onto "All Fired Up" (the pottery studio) to make her matching plates, and then to "Capp and Gino's" for a late martini or latte! :) I have so many cute things for the gift bags and the cake is gorgeous! I have been doing a lot of planning and am sooo excited! :) The Bachelorette party is soooo my style! :) I can't wait!
